The Tea Gardens Skate Park will soon be up and running, giving local children another recreational outlet in town.
Years in the planning, the project was given real standing when the Labor candidate for Paterson, Jim Arneman, approached members of the Skate Park committee with a $20,000 grant earlier this year.
The project has continued to gather momentum and the first seven units of the park are expected to be installed within the next two months.
"Council has already approved our initial plans and we've ordered the units," Skate Park committee president Catherine Telfer said.
"We should have everything up and running by September, it would have been sooner, but there has been a slight hold-up in production."
Council approved plans for the first stage of the development, predicted to cost around $37,500, despite the project being over budget, while Ms Telfer believes another $35,000 will need to be raised to complete the park.
Once the first seven units are put in place, the park will feature two ramps at either end and a fun box in the middle.
While six more units are required to complete the project, the park will still be fully functional once the first pieces arrive in September.
Martin Jones, the committee's youth representative, said the park would be a great addition to the township.
"It will be nice for the kids to have something in the town to play on," he said.
Skater Perry Borg echoed his sentiments.
"We've been waiting about a year for this, so we'll be happy when it's finished," he said.
