Tea Gardens resident Graeme Robbins was one of eight current and former defence force personnel recognised in a special ceremony at Raymond Terrace on Friday, April 11.

Paterson MP Bob Baldwin presented the Australian Defence Medal to Mr Robbins at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club.

The medal was established to recognise the defence forces regular and reserve personnel who have demonstrated their service to the nation by serving four years or their initial enlistment period since the end of World War II.

Both volunteers and servicemen are eligible for the medal.

“Many Australians have been distinguished in battle with campaign, service medals and gallantry awards,” Mr Baldwin said.

“However the performance of those personnel engaged in Australia in support of larger operations or individually contributing to the security of the nation as often gone unrecognised.

Mr Robbins served in the Australian Army Reserve from 1983 to August 1986.
