Stopping crime

13 Feb, 2007 10:19 AM
THIS Friday marks Crime Stoppers Day.

The aim of the day is to remind the NSW community of the importance of their involvement in combating crime.

Crime Stoppers is such a vital communication link between the police and the community that it's hard to imagine fighting crime without it.

Since its inception in 1989, 10,838 charges have been made and nearly $90 million worth of drugs have been taken off the streets as a direct result of calls to Crime Stoppers.

This Friday, Crime Stoppers and the NSW Police Force are asking the community to put the 1800 333 000 Crime Stoppers number into their mobile, home and business speed dial memories, to help police put crime out of business - "Save the Number to Save the Day."

The secret to Crime Stoppers' success is that it offers anonymity. Crime Stoppers Chairman, Peter Price, urges the public to report information to Crime Stoppers.

"We don't need your name, but we really want the information. No matter how small or trivial you think it might be, reporting to Crime Stoppers helps the NSW Police Force," he said.

Anyone with any information about criminal activity or suspected criminals is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. It is a toll free number that is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
