STROUD RSL Hall is in dire need of refurbishment and Great Lakes Council is calling on local residents to submit their ideas.
In a community consultation to be held next month, council will discuss the future of the hall including the planned enhancements and refurbishments details.
Director of corporate and community services, Steve Embry, said in its current form the hall is under-used and in need of new life.
“Council is considering a proposal to upgrade the hall to become a community centre containing larger library facilities, meeting rooms, district office, HACC (Aged and Disability Care Services), tourist information, community information and dedicated space for historical displays,” he said.
“It is intended to preserve and promote the historic significance of the hall.”
Council staff, including mayor Jan McWilliams, will be on hand to discuss estimated costs and potential funding sources plus benefits to the community and job opportunities the project will create.
Mr Embry said council is keen to hear suggestions from the community on how the hall can be revitalised and once again become a focal point for Stroud.
“There will be a consultation session where community members can contribute ideas for the ongoing use of the hall.
“This is their opportunity to provide constructive suggestions and seek feedback from elected representatives and council officers.”
The meeting will be held at Stroud RSL Hall on Monday July 6 at 5.30pm where a light supper will be provided.
