LAST Tuesday Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce launched the new Bulahdelah promotional map.
Over 40 invited guests including Mayor John Chadban, Councillor Leigh Vaughan, Susan Rowe from the Department of State and Regional Development, Richard Old, Manager Great Lakes Tourism and many local businesses all enjoyed this memorable event that put Bulahdelah well and truly in the spotlight.
Guests enjoyed wines from Great Lakes Winery and local award winning sausages from Barry Brother Butchers.
There were also displays from Sugarcreek Toymakers, Yabby Tours of Markwell, John Startin Woodcarver, Harold Blanch and his bullock team, Bulahdelah Rural Transaction Centre, Peacehaven Country Cottages and Myall Shores Eco Resort.
Chamber of Commerce president Brian Cook opened proceedings by outlining the role and vision for the Chamber.
"It is the Chamber's vision to make Bulahdelah a destination before the by-pass, with the Chamber playing a major role in working with all local community groups to develop facilities and jobs for the local residents," he said.
The development of a promotional map that focuses on Bulahdelah and the 2423 postcode was fully supported by Great Lakes Mayor, John Chadban.
"We realise that there is more to Great Lakes than Forster and the beaches, and the initiative being taken by hinterland regions, like Bulahdelah, allows the Great Lakes to be seen as an area with great tourism potential," he said.
Richard Old fully supported the development of the map saying that tourism today has to be experience driven.
"Whilst this map is about a destination it shows clearly all the experiences a visitor can enjoy in the area," he said.
The map is in full colour and folds out to show a fantastic map of the 2423 postcode, highlighting all the things a visitor can see and do.
The reverse side shows a detailed map of the Bulahdelah township and lists all the services, places to stay and eat in the area.
Unlike many promotional brochures, this map has limited advertising by local businesses, making the map easy to read and use.
President Brian Cook said the evening was great success.
"We had a fantastic turnout and it gave everyone the opportunity to chat with other businesses and government officials, and I know for sure that two new opportunities have been generated for the local area as a result of the evening."
The map is available for free to the public at Forster, Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens Visitor Information Centres, local business, and travel shows.
If you don't have your supply of new Bulahdelah maps they are available from the Rural Transaction Centre Bulahdelah, the cost for Chamber members just $15 per 100 and for non-members $30 per 100.
