 Swimming season hits Tea Gardens

Swimming season hits Tea Gardens

12 Sep, 2006 09:43 AM
SPRING is here and the opening of the Tea Gardens swimming pool is just around the corner.

The pool is set to open on Friday, September 29, in time for the October long weekend and school holidays.

Council has been working closely with the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest 355 Sport and Recreation Committee on recommendations for the pool and has taken into account community feedback in regard to social issues and supervision at the facility.

As a result, this season will see the pool open daily from 6am - 7pm, with supervision during school holidays and weekends from 9am - 7pm, and on Monday to Friday outside of school holidays from 3:30pm - 7pm.

There has also been an increase in popularity of both the Masters and Amateur Swimming Club.

In order to support these popular activities council has decided, upon the recommendation of the Sport and Recreation Committee, to close the pool to the public while the Clubs are utilising the facility.

Community feedback will be monitored and adjustment made if deemed necessary. Activities of the Myall Masters Swimming Club will take place on Monday evenings from 5:30pm - 7pm.

Activities of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Amateur Swimming Club will take place on Wednesday evenings from 5pm - 7pm.

A new fee structure is also being introduced this season. Casual entry is $2 for adults, children and pensioners.

Season tickets are $99 for a family ticket, $50 for an adult and $40 for pensioner/child season tickets.

Pool passes are available from the Tea Gardens District Office Monday through Friday.

Council encourages people to pay for casual entry in the 'honesty box' at the pool.

The income from the pool goes towards annual operating expenses and improvements to the facility, which will benefit all users.

You may contact the Tea Gardens District Office on 4997 0182 or Lynn Duffy, Council's Recreation Officer on 6591 7379 if you would like any further information.
