POLICE have charged a teenager with serious driving offences following a pursuit on the weekend.
Around 8.30pm on Saturday, August 23, a maroon Holden Commodore was allegedly detected travelling at excessive speed on the Pacific Highway, south of Bulahdelah.
Police initiated a pursuit of the vehicle, which allegedly crossed onto the incorrect side before travelling through Bulahdelah and increasing speed.
The pursuit was terminated by police for safety reasons.
A short time later, highway patrol officers working in the Coolongolook area spotted the vehicle.
During the second pursuit of the vehicle the commodore allegedly reached speeds of 190km/h.
Police deployed road spikes in two locations, eventually causing the vehicle to stop on the Pacific Highway, north of Bulahdelah.
The 18-year-old male driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot but were arrested by police in nearby bushland.
They were taken to Bulahdelah Police Station and questioned in relation to the incident.
The driver was charged at Taree Police Station with driving in a manner dangerous and driving whilst disqualified and refused bail to appear in Taree Local Court on Monday.
The commodore has been seized by police.
The passenger of the car was released without charge.
