OVER the last couple of months, thieves have been targeting motor vehicles parked at various locations that access the beach from Hawks Nest to Mungo Brush.
The thieves were smashing the windows of cars and removing valuables from inside. Local police sought public assistance in relation to the spate of thefts and on May 19, this cooperation between community and police achieved a result.
A Raymond Terrace man and a Pelaw Main man visited Hawks Nest and proceeded to steal property form vehicles at the mentioned locations.
At the carpark and access off Sanderling Avenue, a local fisherman has observed the offenders acting suspiciously and saw them accessing a maroon Ford wagon.
The offenders sped off but the resident had the presence of mind to record their vehicle registration and a description of their vehicle, and he relayed this information to police immediately.
The offenders were stopped on the Pacific Highway and their vehicle searched where police located a large amount of stolen property.
The offenders were arrested and later charged with three counts of larceny and are being investigated for 12 other offences.
All property was returned to its owners.
Tea Gardens Police are still seeking the owner of the vehicle broken into at the Sanderling Ave (behind the golf course). He or she has not reported the matter as yet and police have property to return.
