Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest residents will be able to get an insider's look at the new vacuum sewerage system, one of the country's biggest, at an open day to be held this month.
MidCoast Water is holding an open day at the Tea Gardens vacuum pumping station, located in Spinifex Avenue, on July 27.
"The open day is designed to give residents a chance to understand how the system works and to have a look at some of the new technologies we have used in the design and construction of this system," MidCoast Water's general manager Neil Hanington said.
The $4 million Tea Gardens vacuum sewerage system has been designed to cater for up to 3600 homes and is the largest such system in the southern hemisphere.
This has been designed to cater for expected growth in the Riverside and Myall River Downs estates.
MidCoast Water will be holding an open day at the Spinifex Avenue station from 12pm to 3pm on Friday July 27.
Staff involved in the design and construction of the system will be on hand to explain the process and answer questions from the community.
There will also be information available on the advantages of vacuum systems for areas such as Tea Gardens and why it was chosen by MidCoast Water for the area.
Members of the community are encouraged to call into the pumping station at anytime between 12pm and 3pm.
