Volunteers needed to join the wildside

18 Jun, 2008 09:24 AM
OVER the past few years, a small event known as Walk on the Wild Side has been held in Hawks Nest during the spring flower season of September.

The one-day event primarily featured a selection of free guided walks led by knowledgeable locals and members of the Myall Koala and Environmental Support Group.

This year will see a major overhaul of this event, beginning with a new event name, the Wild Side Festival of Hawks Nest.

It will continue to feature the fabulous Walk on the Wild Side guided walks, but will also offer a number of new attractions such as Golf on the Wild Side, Feast on the Wild Side and Ride on the Wild Side to name a few.

This combination of mini-events will take place over a week in mid-September, with the ambition of attracting visitors to the area during the low season and proving that Hawks Nest is an appealing destination at any time of year.

At present festival events include:

o Wild Side at Oceanside cocktail party

o Golf on the Wild Side

o Feast on the Wild Side (Food and wine street fair)

o Walk on the Wild Side

o Talk on the Wild Side (short seminars)

o Draw on the Wild Side (drawing native plants workshop)

o Art on the Wild Side (Myall U3A art exhibition)

o Fly on the Wild Side (Helicopter joy flights)

o Cruise on the Wild Side (Wallamba river cruise)

o Ride on the Wild Side (Cycling fun ride and enthusiasts ride)

Event coordinator Shona Hunter Howarth is seeking volunteers to assist with the delivery of the festival.
