NEW sign writing will make it easier for drivers to see the Bulahdelah Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) truck at an accident.
The new truck was delivered to members recently after they were put off the road for two weeks while it was painted.
“The truck looks a million dollars compared to what it was; the safety signs are all reflective, it should stand out like a beacon at night,” regional coordinator and Mid North Coast commander Peter Moyston said.
Members of the VRA were approached at an accident by Mike Grinning from O’Neil Heavy Haulage truck and tyre repairs, asking if they needed someone to look after their trucks.
“It couldn’t have happened if we were not sponsored, it would have taken years to save up for the sign writing,” Mr Moyston said.
O’Neil’s have resprayed and knocked the dints out of the truck before adding reflective safety signs to the sides.
“The crew came and picked up the truck and we never had to do anything; it has been a major project for them but they have put everything aside to do it for us,” Mr Moyston said.
Before the police rescue truck, VRA members were using a much larger truck during their operations.
“This vehicle is more suited to this type of country because we can respond quicker,” Mr Moyston said.
With a new truck members of the squad are now looking for more people to volunteer. Only six personnel are on the books and they are desperately seeking more volunteers.
