FOR those who dream about landing the perfect kick flip, knowing how to pop an ollie or becoming the next Tony Hawke, a weekend of skateboard coaching is coming to Tea Gardens.
Nationally-accredited skateboarding coaches will run a two day program January 16 and 17, for beginners to advance.
Skill development, safety and use of protective equipment, board and skate maintenance and skate park etiquette to reduce risk of collision will be part of the coaching.
The program, a joint sponsorship between the progress association and Great Lakes Council, is the result of a suggestion made at a Progress Association meeting earlier this year, asking student representatives from Tea Gardens Public School to raise issues or ideas.
“Among many things the students were interested in seeing some skateboard demonstrations or coaching here in Tea Gardens, these kinds of things are absolutely essential in small communities when there isn’t much for kids to do,” Progress Association member, Kevin Green said.
“We are encouraging all local kids to attend; there’ll be a barbecue and the official opening of the skate park.”
Registration is $20 including insurance and a streetwise pack.
Forms are available from Tea Gardens Public School, Tea Gardens, CTC, Hawks Nest Surf Club and Tea Gardens District Council Office.
