SERIOUS cyclists are back into the swing of training in preparation for the annual Ride on the Wild Side festival in September.
Following a successful ride last year, organisers have added a 30 kilometre intermediate course to the program from Hawks Nest Surf Club to Little Gibber for ambitious riders.
Meanwhile the regular 25 kilometre Lake Rides through Myall Lakes National Park and 6 kilometre Wild Family Ride around Hawks Nest will still feature.
Event organiser, Melinda McMahon said the ride is expected to attract more than 300 cyclists from serious enthusiasts to families.
“We’re trying to increase numbers a little more – still keeping the focus on the natural assets of Hawks Nest. It will have a similar feeling as last year, we’re just developing it a little bit more.”
Coinciding with national Bike Week, Ms McMahon said the ride is about promoting the local area, supporting business and encouraging people to get out and about.
“The festival is in keeping with the theme of nature and what our local area has to offer, and it’s about encouraging families to get out and enjoy the sunshine and it’s just such a great place to ride because it is so flat.”
“Wildside is very important to the community, and seasonal - capturing the bloom of wildflowers and encouraging people in to help businesses.”
In addition to the ride, plans are underway for a golf day, spotlighting night, art workshops for adults and children, helicopter rides, an evening ball and play by the Myall Coast Entertainers.
Ride on the Wild Side will be held on September 27. Entry forms are available from www.wildsidefestival.com.au.
A public participation meeting for the Wild Side Festival will be held at the Ocean Side Hotel from 7pm on Tuesday June 30.
