BUSINESS women throughout Great Lakes are joining forces and swapping tips on managing successful business.
Women in Business Buddies (WBB) is a newly formed group of ladies who lunch every two months to informally discuss the intricacies of managing or running a business.
Forster Tuncurry Chamber of Commerce member Joanne Jay said the lunches were a forum for conversation between women who share similar issues and goals.
“We’re all trying to be successful at everything. It can be our business that we are maintaining our best appearance for, or family, no matter what the situation there is usually someone relying on you and then there is finding time for yourself,” Ms Jay said.
“The demands are pretty huge.”
The idea came about after Ms Jay and other business women that attended a marketing and branding session realised the huge networking potential between women.
“It’s informal and a chance to work together. It just amazes me how some women manage,” Ms Jay said.
Great Lakes Council’s manager economic development Deb Tuckerman said WBB had increased the awareness of local businesses in the area, especially those working from home.
“People benefit from talking about these things and hearing different feedback and advice, especially those in small business or working on their own. Sometimes it’s nice to know that there are other people out there going through the same thing.” Ms Tuckerman said.
“There is a range of assistance available for people in business, sometimes its better talking about it in an informal environment.”
Ms Tuckerman said WBB was also encouraging people to shop locally.
“In some cases WBB has provided the opportunity for some good cross promotion and led to businesses working together.”
While the lunches are aimed at women who run or own a business, professionals are also invited to come along and share their experiences.
Ms Jay hopes to see the network grow.
“Right now we are encouraging people to bring along friends and colleagues. Hopefully in the future we can have some sponsors so we can invite guest speakers to attend,” Ms Jay said.
The third WBB lunch will be held Thursday February 25 from 12pm – 1.30pm at the Box Fish, Wharf St Forster.
