THERE’S no doubt at Tea Gardens Public School who the fastest runner is, after year six student, Carl Williams took out the 800m state champion title.
“I just won by about 10cm,” Williams said.
In fact, there was only .2 of a second between him and second place.
Williams attributed his win to determination and will now go on to represent NSW at Nationals.
"My goodness you will hear of Carl Williams a lot more," trainer Charles Ringuet said.
"With the discipline and training, he will be representing Australia one day for sure."
But that's not the only Tea Gardens Public school student he has high praise for.
Younger brother Matthew in year 4 also made it to State for the 800m after winning the event at the zone and regional carnivals. He came 13th in the final and Mr Ringuet is positive he has a big future ahead of him.
Not to be outdone by the boys was year five student Alexia Bednarczyk, who managed to make it to State for long jump where she came 10th, 5th in the 100m and 6th place in the 200m events.
"While the boys are long distance, Alexia goes very well in sprinting and jumps," Mr Ringuet said.
According to Mr Ringuet, their training is paying off. A former professional athlete himself, he trains the kids up to six times a week.
"I am very proud of all of them. They all put in a certain amount of effort. The main thing is the training and effort they put in, they deserve the results," he said.
He and Matthew will both go to support Williams when he competes in nationals at the end of the month.
