A grade on top

11 Jan, 2008 06:56 AM
Due to bad weather and the Christmas break, only a couple of cricket games have been played over the last couple of weeks.

The A grade side blitzed the shell-shocked Bowthorne team at Karuah.

They were rolled for 27, with Josh Simms taking 4 for 6, Brad Pinch 2 for 2 and Mark Johnson 2 for 9.

The home side knocked up the runs with little trouble in a few overs, gaining an extra bonus point and keeping them on top of the A grade competition.

If you thought the Australians were excited at beating India, it was nothing to the celebrations in the D grade team when they won their first match of the season.

The jubilation of this side was something to behold.

They knocked off Raeworth at Tea Gardens by scoring 180 runs and held the opposition to 140.

The chief destroyer was Adam Johns with 60 runs, ably supported by Mike Bailey with 32 and a cameo innings of 20 by Graeme Johnson.

Their bowling and fielding was tight, particularly by Graeme Johnson, Adam Johns and Ian Ingram who never let Raeworth off the hook.

Skipper Stuart Hole marshalled his troops like a four-star general.

That long string of losses in 2007 is history now and the boys now know they have a competitive side for the second half of the season.
