A grade takes home premiership

17 Mar, 2008 12:49 PM
Tea Gardens Karuah A Grade cricket side won the premierships by beating Bowthorne in the grand final at Lorn Park.

This exceptionally talented local team has led the competition throughout and deserved their success.

Bowthorne knocked up a challenging competitive score of 8/194, with Mark Johnson the successful bowler with 4/27.

After losing an early wicket, the Tea Gardens Karuah side settled down to a fine innings of 91 by the ever reliable and aggressive John Halloran. He was given great support by Adrian Callaghan who scored 34.

Brad Pinch 18, Dave Frith 17 n.o and Brent Bills with 15 n.o steered us home to victory, with Frithy belting a six to finish the game.

The club stands to lose John Halloran next season as he could be heading to first grade and though we wish him the best as a fine batsman and sportsman he will be greatly missed.

On a sobering note, the B and D grade sides struggled throughout the season and it is a challenge for the club to give them greater support when the next season gets under way.

Our cricket club is deeply grateful for the consistent ongoing support it has received from the RS and CC and Crightons during this and previous seasons.

After a period of mixed celebration and licking of wounds we will return when summer looms again.
