Balls fly as soccer season kicks off

30 Apr, 2008 10:08 AM
The 2008 Tea Gardens Soccer season began on Saturday, the first sunny day of the entire school holidays.

Due to the wet ground the scheduled trial games couldn’t be played but we were able to use the small amount of dry ground to give the kids an informal skills assessment.

It was a fun morning and a big thankyou to all of the people who have volunteered their time to help coach and referee.

We have a great new committee with many fresh ideas and a lot of enthusiasm, which should ensure our kids have a fantastic time every Saturday.

During the holidays we had a much needed working bee at the soccer grounds.

Committee members did a huge amount of fixing and cleaning, of which there is still more to do.

Also it was agreed that the club sorely needed an upgrade of match and training balls and other teaching aids, these were purchased and given an initial workout on Saturday.

For our children to learn to play a quality game they need to have access to quality equipment.

The canteen is trialling Mrs Mac’s pies and sausage rolls (some vegetarian).

It is still undecided how often we will be selling them so please let us know what you think.

Don’t worry Noel’s barbecue is not going anywhere.

Please remember that players will not be able to take part in any games until the Soccer Federation has received both fees and signed forms, this includes children who have played in previous seasons.

Our first full games will be played next Saturday, please make sure that players are there 15 minutes before their match begins so the day can run to schedule.

Players must have shin pads and soccer boots.

There are still some second hand boots at the soccer shed that can be borrowed until they are outgrown.

Shin pads can be bought from the canteen; there are two styles to choose from.

Training begins this Wednesday from 4pm to 5.30pm.

For more information on the soccer club please contact Anne on 49979023 or Tony on 49972135.
