Bullets are still on top

09 Aug, 2007 11:28 AM
Saturday, August 4, marked round 15 of the 2007 football mid north coast open men's premiership, which saw premiership leaders, the Bulahdelah bullets, travel to Boronia Park in Forster to meet their closest footballing neighbors the Wallamba Wizards.

Expecting no easy match against one of the most physical teams in the competition, the bullets were fired up for a tough afternoon of football.

The opening 15 seconds almost saw the bullets score their fastest goal of the season, with Chris Buckley using his lightning speed, weaving through the opposition only to be denied by fractions of a millimeter.

With a positive start to the match the bullets continued to apply the pressure to the wizards' defence leaving the opposing keeper helpless as he watched the ball sail into the top corner.

It didn't take long and the bullets were in again this time through a penalty calmly slotted away by striker Liam O'Brian.

Going to the break 2-0 up the bullets went to the sheds feeling confident and keen to continue their first half performance into the second 45.

The second stanza saw the bullets get off to a shaky start and fail to find their rhythm as the wizards began to try and muscle the bullets off the ball.

With the match seemingly beginning to get out of control the bullets held together and proved to be a well disciplined team, as the wizards picked up three yellow and one red card in the space of five minutes.

The bullets coach, George Eadie, was more than impressed with the way the bullets conducted themselves through some very trying periods of the match.

Final score was Bullets 2, wizards 0.

Goal scorers were Nathan Makila (1) and Liam O'Brien (1).

Man of the match went to the bullets ever present central defenders Brent Smith and Nathan Makita.

This weekend will see the bullets travel to Tinonee to face third placed Tinonee Eagles and back up on Sunday in a top of the table clash against second placed Hallidays point barracudas at Diamond Beach in a match that could determine the minor premiership.
