Bullets beaten in grand final

19 Sep, 2007 08:10 AM
Saturday, September 15 saw the Bullets open men’s side travel to Lake St, Forster to take on arch rivals and minor premiers the Hallidays Point Barracudas in the most anticipated match of the season, the grand final.

At the completion of the round matches, only one point separated the two teams, with the Bullets being pipped at the final hurdle handing the Barracudas the minor premiership.

If that wasn’t enough to fire the Bullets up, their need for redemption after suffering a humiliation 5 to 0 semi final defeat at the hands of the Barracudas two weeks earlier certainly had the Bullets ready to fire.

With that in mind the Bullets weren’t about to let the Barracudas steel the major premiership from their grasp.

In what had become one of the greatest rivalries this season the scene was set for an explosive grand final.

In the opening stanza the Bullets continually applied the pressure to the Barracudas’ defence, driving them back into their own territory, with the Barracudas forced into playing on the counter.

The Bullets best opportunity came midway through the first half as Jye Laver’s shot crossed the line only to have the referee wave it away, infuriating the Bullets.

Despite their protests the Bullets came up empty handed and went to the sheds for the break feeling cheated at 0 all.

After a tight first half it was do or die for the Bullets in the second 45.

In the opening 10 minutes the Bullets seemed to lose their focus as the Barracudas applied the pressure.

It was here that the match turned for the worst for the Bullets as the Barracudas slotted home a scrappy goal, leaving the Bullets feeling gutted after dominating so much of the possession.

Keeping their heads up the Bullets got on with the job and the Barracudas didn’t see much more of the ball as the Bullets continued their forays into the opposing half, rattling the woodwork on several occasions.

Despite all their possession the Bullets failed to convert and with officiating decisions seemingly going against them it was hard for the Bullets to find their rhythm.

The match ended one zero in favour of the Barracudas.

Congratulations deservedly go to the Bullets for a great season to which they fought right to the end.

The Bullets would also like to congratulate the Barracudas on a great season; we’ll see you again next year.

Thank you to all our supporters who travelled to support us on grand final day.

The senior awards dinner and presentation night will be held at 6.30pm on Saturday, October 20 at the Plough Inn Hotel, bookings to be forwarded to Nicole Dorney on 4997 4174.
