Bullets down but not out

15 Aug, 2007 07:53 AM
SATURDAY August 11, marked round 16 of the 2007 Football Mid North Coast Premiership, which saw the Bullets travel to Tinonee to face off against third placed Tinonee Eagles, the only team to have beaten the Bullets this season.

In a match that see-sawed in possession it was the Eagles that got the early break catching the Bullets off guard and sending them to the sheds 1-0 down at half time.

After a very disappointing first half the Bullets were keen to regain some momentum.

It didn't take long and the bullets hit back through Dylan Guthrie, locking the scores at one a piece.

From there it was the Bullets who dictated the remainder of the match but were unable to penetrate the Eagles' defence, settling for a 1-1 draw.

The Bullets then backed up on Sunday, August 12, travelling to Diamond Beach to play a catch up match from round 13 against second placed Hallidays Point Barracudas.

Knowing this would be their toughest match for the season, despite the fact that the Bullets had won their previous two encounters against the barracudas.

Struggling with fatigue and plagued by injury the Bullets fought hard and gained the early ascendancy through some great lead up play with Dylan Guthrie slotting away with the goal.

The Barracudas continued to apply the pressure to the Bullets' defence and through some unfortunate events the Bullets gave away an unlucky own goal sending the teams to the break locked atone a piece.

The first 20 minutes of the second stanza saw the Bullets play some great football rattling the woodwork on three occasions within five minutes.

But again the match took an ugly turn for the Bullets as they unluckily gifted the Barracudas with a second goal.

With time against them the Bullets fought incredibly hard to regain control of the game but were unable to get the match back, suffering their second defeat of the season.

Full credit is given to all the boys who fought courageously to the full time whistle. The Bullets faced fourth placed Taree Wildcats Cougars at home next Saturday.
