AFTER a couple of shaky rounds and heavily plagued by injury, the Bullets got their season back on track last Friday night.
The ladies travelled to a very windy South St, Tuncurry to do battle with the Old Bar Devils in round nine of the football Mid North Coast open women’s competition.
Battling the elements, the Bullets, in one of their best performances to date, outclassed their opponents.
New signing, Courtney Cowan slotted right in with Jade Sumner and captain Janna-Bree Dowling in the mid field, completely controlling the tempo of the match.
Out wide, Sarah Longworth made continuous inroads through the Devil’s defence, causing headaches for her opposing number all night.
Whilst up front, returning from injury, vice captain Kelly Plowman continued her good form.
Plowman threatened the opposing goal line every time she receive the ball, feeding off her partners in crime Fiona Grace and Ashley Styles.
With continuous threatening forays into their opponent’s territory, it was no surprise that the Bullets went to the sheds 3 to 0 up, at the break.
Returning to the field in the second stanza, it was clear that the Bullets had not finished yet.
The ladies ran in a further five unanswered goals, with Jade Sumner and Courtney Cowan both opening their goal scoring account for the season.
Mention must be also given to the Bullets’ defence in Becky Barry, Tania Locke and Jess Cook, who didn’t allow the Old Bar girls anything all night.
Final score was Bullets 8, Old Bar Devils 0.
The win extended the Bullets’ lead at the top of the competition table.
The goal scorers for the match were Kelly Plowman with two, Janna-Bree with two, Sara Longworth with two, Jade Sumner with one and Courtney Cowan with one. The Bullet’s best for the night went to Courtney Cowan.
This match was Cowans second with the Bullets.
The girls yet again travel up the highway this Friday to Tuncurry where the Tinonee Falcons await them.
Kick off for the game against Tinonee is at 7pm South St, Tuncurry.
The Bullets would also like to take this opportunity to wish captain Janna-Bree Dowling and fiance Zac Riley all the best as they prepare to leave us.
Janna-Bree has been an important part of the Bullets for the past two years and will be terribly missed by us all.
Thank you ‘JB’ for the times you’ve shared with us and the contribution you made to our team.
We wish you a very happy and prosperous future together.
