Thursday, November 29, marked round five of the Bulahdelah Soccer Club twilight competition as teams continued to battle it out on the field for football supremacy, and a chance to hold up the Plough Inn Hotel six-a-side champions shield.
The afternoon’s proceedings got underway at 5.30pm on field one with current shield holders Illusions taking on one of the new comers Salinga.
In a dominate display Illusions strikers were in form with Dylan Guthrie clocking up a personal tally and record eight goals, whilst partner in crime Liam O’Brien notched up a double hat-trick 6. The match ended Illusions 17, Salinga 2. Full credit to Salinga who never gave up and played right through to the whistle.
Field two saw Down to Earth Paving Pythons and Mellow Yellow face off. These are two of the younger sides who have continued to make their mark on the competition playing some impressive football.
In a back and forth match it was Mellow Yellow who came up with the goods taking home a 3-1 win.
The second round of matches got underway at 6.30pm on field two with Tea Gardens Hotel to tackle the Plough Inn.
The crew from the south proved to be too strong for the locals running away with a 5-0 victory.
The third round of matches kicked off at 7.30pm on field one with Blue Lightning FC to shape up to Dad’s Army.
In what started as an evenly fought match it would be Blue Lightning FC who proved to be too good on the day.
The match finished Blue Lightning FC 5, Dad’s Army 1.
Field two saw competition leaders Pink Panthers tackle last years runner up Mayer’s Flat Marauders. Being one of the feature matches of the round, both teams were poised for a big one. The match didn’t disappoint as both sides found each others nets on two occasions.
With Mayer’s Flat throwing everything at the panthers defence, who proved they were up to the task, with Daniel Enright spoiling the party in goals for the marauder’s up front. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
With three teams now tied at the top of the competition table, not only has the 2007/2008 summer competition been the largest to date it is now proving to be one of the closest and things are only going to get better.
So if you are not doing anything on a Thursday afternoon come down and get involved in this great sport.
