IT’S that time of year again when the Bulahdelah Fishing Club will host the Bulahdelah Bass Bash, now in its 13th year on the majestic Myall and Crawford Rivers.
The event will be held this coming weekend - February 9 to 11 at Bulahdelah.
Last year’s event was one of the most successful ever held with over 250 anglers signing on, and once again the club is hoping to top that number this year.
With quite a number of Bass being caught recently in the river and with the Mullet on the boil, this should make for a great weekend for all who enters.
The event is run on a catch and release system where all Bass caught must be weighed in at the weigh station on the south side if the bridge, before being released back to the water to swim away and fight another day.
A sign on fee of $10 per adult and $5 per junior applies and can be paid at the club’s caravan on the riverbank from Friday evening and throughout the weekend.
The competition is wide open, with prizes being given for the biggest Bass in both groups as well as prizes for the biggest Bream and biggest other species, and plenty of Mullet and Flathead being caught.
There is also an encouragement award given out, as well as the Top Line Roofing Eel Classic competition for the kids, which is always a popular event and the fairer sex won last year. Come on young blokes, try not to let the girls beat you this year! Girls, the pressure is on. The competition starts at 5am on Saturday and finishes at 11am on Sunday. No fish weighed in after this time will be accepted.
There will be a barbeque available on the riverbank on both Saturday and Sunday, with some willing volunteers from the Bulahdelah Fishing Club cooking up a storm of bacon and egg rolls and steak and sausage sandwiches, which will be on sale to anglers and visitors for breakfast, lunch and tea. Coffee, tea and cold drinks will also be available at the canteen sign on area.
The presentation for the Bass Bash will once again be held at the Bulahdelah Bowling Club, which also happens to be the major sponsor for this event.
The presentation will be held on Sunday at 1pm, with a light snack provided for competitors and guests. At the presentation there will be prizes galore with hundreds of dollars worth of goodies to be awarded, not only to the winners of the major categories, but also to anyone who has signed on for the event and is lucky enough to have their number drawn out in the grab raffle. Winners in the raffle must be present in the club to claim their prize.
This great weekend at Bulahdelah doesn’t start with the fishing but with the Bass Bash Ball, which will be held at the Bulahdelah Bowling club on Friday, February 9, with free entry and a great band provided. This is sure to be the start of an enjoyable weekend for all who attend.
Proceeds from this weekend will be donated to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the Bulahdelah Fishing Club’s Bass Fingerling Fund.
