Bullets put an end to Wizard magic in a close competition

14 Jul, 2010 05:03 PM
SATURDAY July 10 marked round 13 of the 2010 Football Mid North Coast Premiership with the Bullets hitting the tarmac, travelling up the highway to Wallamba, looking to extend their current good form.

With several key players out, the Bullets were travelling light on numbers but were still determined to keep their aspirations of a finals series birth alive.

In is one of the closest competitions to date and no team can afford to drop points.

Confident they would bring home the win, the Bullets began the match accordingly and gained the early ascendancy but failed to convert their possession into goals.

On the other side of the park, the Wizards appeared to have an army of players at their disposal and used their bench well, turning over the fresh legs enabling them to keep the pressure on the Bullets. Despite a dominant first half performance, the Bullets found themselves down 1-0 going into the break after a howler from one of the Wizards found the back of the net.

The second stanza saw the Bullets step up a gear and it wasn’t long before they were on level terms again with Dale Sumner and Jake Hacene linking up to put one on the score board. With the score locked at 1-1, both teams pressed for that all important winning goal.

The Bullets created some great opportunities only to see them matched by some great scrambling defence from the Wizards. When you’re under constant pressure though, it doesn’t take long before something gives.

Awarded a penalty after Dale Sumner was brought down in the box, Bullets captain Dylan Guthrie stepped up and calmly slotted the dotty, giving the Bullets a 2-1 lead which they clung onto as Wallamba scrambled for an equaliser.

The match ended Bullets 2, Wallamba Wizards FC 1.

MVP went to Dale Sumner with Jake Hacene, Joel Grace and Jye Laver picking up a share of the points. Goal Scorers Jake Hacene 1, Dylan Guthrie 1.

The Bullets will be home at 3pm this Saturday against Green Point Rovers FC in what will be another tough encounter.

This Saturday will also see the table topping Under 15 girls team along with the ladies and Gunners sides in action at home. Please come along and support your team and join us back at the Bowlo for a yarn.

Don’t forget the upcoming Bulahdelah Soccer Club annual trivia night, Saturday July 24 at the Bulahdelah Bowling Club, questions kick off from 7pm. Tables of eight cost is $10 per head. Fancy dress (you pick the theme). Bookings to Steve Locke on 4997 4697.
