Karuah RSL Sharks return to form Rampaging Bills posts a blistering 90 runs

14 Dec, 2011 12:00 AM
THE Karuah RSL Sharks returned to form on Saturday. With the return of a full complement of players they faced off against the top team in the competition, Wallarobba at home.

Wallarobba won the toss, hoping to bat the Sharks out of the match, however a slow run rate due to some tidy bowling in the first instant by Mark Johnson and Josh Simms put pressure on the Wallarobba batsmen in the middle stages of the innings to push up the run rate.

All bowlers contributed either by restricting the run rate or taking wickets. Mark Johnson, Mark Bills, Brad Pinch and Arron Bills were all multiple wicket takers in the Wallarobba total of 153 form 40 overs.

Any thoughts of a heavy ground following the recent rains to slow the scoring rate of the Sharks were quickly put to rest as Brent Bills and Josh Simms went about the Wallarobba representative bowling attack with the furosity of frenzied Sharks. 20 off the first over was a taste of things to come and the first wicket of Simms fell in the seventh over for 78 his contribution 33. The carnage continued with Bills on the rampage smashing eleven sixes and only two fours in his blistering 90. The Wallarobba total being eclipsed in the twenty second over.

The Sharks travelled to Telligra to battle with Hammers in a top four clash. The Karuah RSL Sharks got away to a good start with Bob Zelkie and Sam Rees posting a respectable opening partnership of 58, Zelkie departing for 23, Rees and Nash Johnson were going along nicely before Rees exited for 40.

The father and son combination of Graeme and Nash Johnson carried the score past the century before a steady fall of wickets saw the total at 127. This was probably always going to be a bit short going on the first round result. Then a comedy of errors from the normally brisk fieldsmen went a long way to throwing the match Hammers way.

Some excellent Bowling from juniors Nash Johnson at first and Trent Page who at the time seemed to have the ball on a string should have had more wicket than the two he finished with. Other useful contributions came from Tom King, Josh Whitby and Graeme Johnson. Ned Jury taking the catch that the Sharks thought had won the match only to find out upon leaving the field when the books were checked had hammers winning the match.

Following the fielding effort the Sharks probably didn't deserve to win, they should still be entrenched in the four at this stage.
