COMPETING at the Hunter Branch Carnival, Tea Gardens Hawks Nest nippers were pitted against the best competitors in their age groups and had to use every ounce of energy they had.
Once again, held at Fingal Bay, the results achieved by this handful of young people were astounding for the size of our club.
Beach sprint places were achieved by Shannon Markham coming third, Cooper Jenkins in at second and Sam Webb with third.
Courtney Webb was fifth in her beach flags event, Amelia Ross came fifth in her board event and the under nine girls achieved sixth place in the beach relay.
Whether medals were won or not, each one of them did their very best despite the weather going through all seasons in one day.
A very special congratulation goes to Courtney Webb who, against extremely tough competition, was awarded the Hunter Junior Lifesaver of the Year award. This is an extraordinary feat for an extraordinary young woman and recognises her for, among other things, her contribution to surf life saving as well as to the club, involvement in community events outside Surf Life Saving, initiative applied to club and community activities and demonstration of leadership roles.
If her face seems familiar it is not surprising, and more than likely you have bought a ticket from her while she has been on one of her many fundraising drives.
The club is extremely proud to have her as a member and hopes that her success will encourage other young members to take the same path.
The young nippers have another mammoth task next weekend when they will travel to Swansea Belmont for the State championships.
Good luck to all competing and may the experience enrich you no matter what the results.
