Shannon’s big jump to state

12 Aug, 2010 12:57 PM
SHANNON Markham has jumped her way to the State Athletics carnival after she came equal second in the under 14 girl’s high jump at zone, held at Glendale Sports Centre.

She also managed a personal best of 9.19m in the 12 – 15 year girl’s triple jump, putting her in fifth place.

Over two wet days, Markham also competed in discus and long jump.

The Tea Gardens runner will take it to the next level at the State Championships held next month.

Trainer, Charles Ringuet said she deserved the results and has the potential to go a long way in athletics.

“Shannon trained very hard over many weeks and was determined to do well, and well she did,” he said.

“Shannon’s success arrived after three years of trying and she deserves it. She is a brilliant little jumper and has a wonderful temperament.”
