BOTH grades of the Karuah and District RSL sponsored Sharks Cricket Club cruised to victory on Saturday.
The A Grade Sharks travelled to Gresford and on an even, grassy Gresford pitch had no hesitation in batting first. With the usual breezy start from Josh Simms and Mark Bills going on the attack in a run a ball partnership. Brent Bills was more circumspect this week, batting at number three anchored the top of the innings with 30.
Good middle order support from Brad Pinch with a match score of 36 and Rod Berry 15 and smaller but positive scores down the order and assistance from an unusually large number of 25 sundries made for a competitive total of 171.
Gresford were humbled in 27 overs for 101.
C Grade travelled to Seaham, wining the toss and batting, the Sharks Bob Zelkie and Tige Ingram promoted to partner Zelkie giving the Sharks an ideal start to their innings. Zelkie first to go with 21, Ingram and Sam Rees continued in a 40 run partnership before Ingram holed out. A further 55 were added by Rees and Paul Haddow taking the score to 133 before both batsmen were out in quick succession. Haddow for 16 and Rees for a lucky 62. Graeme Johnson was the glue in the bottom of the order with 25 and seeing the total to 182 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seaham started with a brisk 66 run opening partnership to take control of the run chase, which when broken in the fifteenth over saw a collapse with the loss of five wickets for 34 runs to put the Sharks back in control. The damage being done by Darren Weatherall in a welcome return and Graham Johnson and Tige Ingram added pressure by taking wickets plus some outstanding fielding particularly from Jack Whitby in his first game pulled off some amazing run saves. The early hard work was supported by Jacob Gimbert in his best performance for the Sharks with two timely wickets to help wind up the Seaham innings for 135. C Grade has a bye next week.
