This week 280 veteran men and women golfers from 57 clubs including Horton Park and Southport in Queensland, Howlong, Dubbo and Forbs will be visiting Hawks Nest Tea Gardens to compete for $7000 in prize money and trophies in the annual Veterans Weeks of Golf Tournament being conducted at the Hawks Nest Golf Club.
The tournament is played over four days with Wednesday as a rest day when the visitors enjoy the hospitality provided by the sole sponsor Crighton’s Lifestyle Resort, or sample the many delights for which our beautiful area is renowned.
Mixed events are played on Monday and Friday with individual competitions on Tuesday and Thursday. The tournament winner for both men and women is determined by the best score achieved from either of the two individual events.
Last years men’s winner Rob James from Tuggerah Lakes is returning to defend his title.
The Hawks Nest Golf Club will be the venue for the Thursday evening presentation dinner dance and will be catering for 320 visitors and guests.
The tournament is the first of 47 such events played at various clubs in NSW throughout the year with each tournament conducted under the auspices of the NSW Veteran Golfers Association.
This will be the eighth consecutive year that the event has been held at the Hawks Nest Golf Club. Many of the visiting golfers return each year to play in this popular event.
There are a number who have played in all eight weeks of golf.
These tournaments are keenly sought by all golf clubs giving local economies a boost with accommodation and hospitality as provided in our towns.
The local golf community and townspeople wish all visitors a successful week and trust that you enjoy your stay in the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens area.
