Junior golfers strut their stuff

08 May, 2007 08:56 AM
Thirty enthusiastic students from the Myall Junior Golf Academy competed in their autumn tournament at Hawks Nest Golf Club last Monday, April 30.

With numbers in the younger ranks swelling, competition was intense yet friendly.

A good turn up of parents along with teachers Mrs Benton, Mr Yeo and Mrs Estens ensured a smooth flow around the course with spectators witnessing many fine golf shots.

Winners were Zac Ashard (Stage 3), Matthew Williams (Stage 1), Jackson Page and Sami Davidson (Stage 2). A highlight was Corror Lynch's performance in the separate putting competition where he went around the course in three under par.

Other winners in this competition were Cooper Hunter and Sami Davidson (Stage 2) and Matthew Williams (Stage 1).

All participants were happy to receive award vouchers from So Lo Prices in Hawks Nest.

Coordinator Ross Weightman said he was very pleased with the progress of the program this year and thanked local professional Steve Denning and Hawks Nest Golf Club for their strong support.

He also thanked the many members of the club and general public who have been overwhelming in their support through the provision of golf clubs, balls and other equipment.

Additional thanks go to the supporting teachers at Tea Gardens Public School as well as Ray Gilchrist for cutting down and re-gripping forty odd clubs for younger players to use. The program will continue in week five of term two.
