Oldest and youngest team up for mixed fours

28 May, 2008 10:45 AM
AGE was no barrier on Sunday, May 18, when Thora Ireland and Ben Eadie teamed up for the Bulahdelah Golf Club Mixed Foursomes.

Thora has been a member of the club for nearly 50 years and won over 50 club titles.

She asked Ben to team up with her when her usual partner was unable to play.

Despite the 75 year age difference the pair enjoyed the 27 hole competition, holding their own in a small but competitive field.

“Although he put me in the rough a few times many of his shots were excellent and we had an enjoyable round,” Thora said.

Ben said by the 18th hole, with nine still to play, he wished he had a Henrietta, Thora’s trusty three-wheel golf scooter.

The mixed foursomes championship was finally won by Jeff and Trudy Graham after a thrilling two hole playoff with Ollie Hickey and Dave Schlenert.
