FRIDAY April 30 was a perfect day. The sky was cloudless and the sun was shining. We were blessed with a perfect day to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Karuah RSL Women’s Bowls Club, a pearl anniversary.
It was absolutely wonderful to welcome state president, Jewel Buchanan, district president, Marjorie Adams and their executive to officiate over proceedings and share the day with us.
Two representatives from 20 clubs in the Newcastle district, the secretary manager of the Karuah RSL Club, Steve Pell, president of the Karuah and District RSL Men’s Bowls Club, Ivan Hassett and our always there umpire, Bob Wilson, the president of the RSL club, Graeme Parker and 39 members of the Karuah Women’s Bowls Club made up a very happy group.
President Lyn Cale and her executives welcomed our Newcastle guests, arriving at 9.30am for morning tea, (always a treat, and definitely lived up to it’s reputation).
The arrival of state and district representatives was a delight, with the group, accompanied by the Karuah executives being piped onto the green for a formal welcome by all the guests. Formalities over, the piper then headed the procession off the green and into the clubhouse.
Morning tea was enjoyed by the executives whilst club representatives and some Karuah ladies went out into the sunshine to do what they do best, have a game of bowls.
A superb lunch, wholly prepared by the Karuah ladies followed the game of bowls. Congratulations ladies, it was terrific and the service was second to none.
State president Jewel, presented merit pins to four Karuah ladies for their loyal support and ongoing commitment to their club, and congratulated them on their achievements. Recipients were, Berry Crumblin, Robyn Latimore, Fay Barclay and Lyn Cale.
A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all and there were congratulations all round upon reaching the club’s 30th anniversary.
A fond farewell was bid to state and district representatives and we look forward to another visit from them.
