WITH the Christmas/New Year break behind us, bowls are now back in full swing.
For the benefit of our holidaymakers, men's bowls are played Wednesday at midday (Num Triples) and 9.30am on Fridays (DFP Pairs).
Sunday morning: Introduction to Bowls commences at 10am (DFP Triples Mixed).
Last Sunday saw the final of our Fours Championships with the team of Ron James, Adrian Yeo, John Parkinson and Tom Parkinson proving too strong for last year's champions - Noel Jackson, Danny Johnson, Bob Skewes and Ted Purkiss.
The winners jumped to an early lead and were always in charge, with the four players all having great games for the victors.
The entry sheet for the Triples Championship is now on the board so get your entries in ASAP.
Also, the mixed Konami Triples is on Saturday, January 20 - see board for details.
On Saturday, January 13, a trial was held between our own players with some good performances produced on the day.
Ron James, Barry Harvey, Pat Hatton and Jim Morrison all showed good early form.
Competition for all teams will be keen this season, with only three teams entered.
On Saturday, February 17, the unfolding of our winning No 5 Pennant from 2006 will take place, with representatives from the Newcastle and NSW Bowling Associations, plus four invited clubs in attendance.
Saturday, February 5 will see an International Singles Game between Barry Lakeman, representing the South of England, and John Wright representing the North; more information regarding the clash of these legends of the game will be in the next report.
