MYALL River Junior Rugby League kicked off their season on Saturday May 2 at Tuxford Park in Shortland.
After two forfeits due to lack off numbers, the club has been able to form a side in the 14 years and under division, thanks to the addition of some new players.
In their first run, the team struggled for any coordination and were unable to contain a well structured opposition.
Best for Myall River was Jack McMahon, whose effort in defence was first class.
New signing, Kai McNally, was strong in defence and took the ball up strongly. He was rewarded with a try beside the post just before half time.
Nic Reynolds defended well, supported by Andrew Woods, who showed plenty of grunt in his first game.
Zac Lowe’s effort in moving from wing to front row was good.
New wing recruit, Jacob Barr, showed his style in defence when taking on Shortland’s biggest player in a copy book tackle.
Chris Feeney also pulled off a try saving tackle with a great bootlace tackle from behind. Hooker Troy Finch will be better off with the first run under his belt, as will Jarrod Cramp. Sol Keys urged his side on all day and Ray Finch didn’t stop trying.
