A RECORD number of anglers signed up for the annual Bulahdelah Bass Bash on the Myall River last week.
Secretary of the Bulahdelah Fishing Club, Brett Schultz said he was overwhelmed by the entries.
“It’s the most sign on’s we’ve ever had and the event is definitely growing each year. In previous years we had one fisherman travel up from Ballarat. This year they’ve come from as far south as Sydney and as far north as Kempsey,” he said.
“We have a lot of people on the pro bass tournament come along because this weekend is very relaxing. It’s just a good atmosphere and people keep coming back so we must be doing something right.”
Catching a 1.4kg bass Dave Trinder took home the title just edging out Kempsey woman, Kylee Harris who was runner up with a fish of 1.3kg.
The junior section was won by James Sherwood with a bass of 725g while the Fidden’s Seafood Biggest Bream was taken out by local boy John Barry with a monster 1.2 kg bream. The junior section was won by Dean Carr with a 550g bream.
Across the two days of competition novice and professional fishing enthusiasts battled extremely hot conditions.
In the Biggest Other Species, sponsored by the Dorney family, Dave Trinder was again the lucky fisherman with a flathead of 1.225kg.
The A Team Earthmoving’s Mightiest Mullet of the Myall Competition made a popular debut at this year’s competition. Brother and sister combination, Ben and Charlie Pearce took out first and second, with local mullet whiz, Ellie Gooch grabbing third spot.
The Topline Roofing Eel Classic saw Bradley Keaton take the honours from Corey Johnston and Lewis Dorney.
Going on the number of bass caught in this year’s competition, Mr Schultz said the Bulahdelah Fishing Club’s bass restock program is on track.
“It is obvious the club’s restocking program has worked wonders for the bass stocks in the Myall River.”
The club wishes to thank all event sponsors including major sponsor the Bulahdelah Bowling Club for their continued support of this fantastic initiative.
In response to the bush fire tragedy in Victoria the Bulahdelah Fishing Club has donated $500 in proceeds to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
