Tea Gardens Country Club Bowling Club

WELCOME to New Year bowling – Wednesday January 6 1st Barry Drayton, Barry Wyness, Jim Kerin (Orange) and Bob Skewes, 2nd Danny Johnson, John Adam and Ron Green. Friday January 8 winners were Tom Parkinson and Geoff Page.

Club Fours Championship –– Dennis Ashbridge, John Younghusband, Bob Foster and Bob Skewes d. Barry Drayton, Barry Wyness, Daryl Martin and Peter Oldfield. 23/7 - Barry Harvey, Terry Eyles, Dennis Olive and GrahamHarvey d. Bill Thrift, Max Stephens, Bill Heylbut and Tom Short 28/10

On Sunday January 10, the Club Fours final was played, a great game of bowls.

Dennis Ashbridge’s team were well in front early, but a tremendous fight back by Barry Harvey’s team saw a result of 15 all at 21 ends necessitating a further end be played and the eventual winners were Dennis Ashbridge, John Younghusband, Bob Foster and Bob Skewes 18/15 over Barry Harvey, John Parkinson, Dennis Olive and Grahame Harvey (with substitute Bill Whalan when Grahame retired injured). Well played chaps.

Sunday Introduction to Bowls – 1st Geoff Burgess, Warren Baker and Dulcie Keenan, 2nd Vicki Rankin (very consistent) Sandra Leisman, Ro Waller and Sheril Johnson.

Wednesday January 13 1st Bob Weir, Bill Whalan, Laurie Welsh (also very consistent) and John Stephens, 2nd Dennis Ashbridge, Bill Heylbut and Tom Short.

Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Club

THE return to bowls on January 12 saw 40 ladies play in very hot conditions.

Because of the heat only 18 ends were played, won by Vicki Rankin, Merle Sargeant, Lyn Ashton and Maynie Roberts (skip).

Thursday January 14, there was a good roll up for social bowls with Claire Atkins, Maureen Oldfield and Helen Doorey (skip) the winners.

On Saturday and Sunday members went to Stockton to watch Helen Doorey and Vicki Rankin represent the Newcastle District, winning the Inaugural Annual Games against the ACT.

On Friday January 22, Helen and Vicki will go to Albion Park Bowling Club to contest the Howard Shield as representatives of the District. This is a bi-annual event held between Newcastle and Illawarra Districts. - Faybee
