EIGHTY-EIGHT players joined together at the Country Club Venue at Tea Gardens Grange on Friday February 13 in a competitive but good spirited interclub teams contest with Hawks Nest Bridge Club pitted against Tilligerry Bridge Club.
This large attendance follows on from the growing number of players, approaching 100 in total, at the Hawks Nest Club’s regular twice weekly games. To a degree such increasing interest and participation in the game can be attributed to the success of the Learn to Play Bridge Classes held under the guidance of Leslie Falla.
Play got underway at 10am with five hours of play competently directed by Leslie and Chez with assistance from John interrupted only by a delicious lunch ably managed by Val.
Tilligerry were the victors on the day which led to the Hawks Nest President Adrian, declaring that Hawks Nest would seek to win back the title of the leading club at their next happy meeting.
The winners of the A Grade Section were Peter and Janet Kieran, Evan Williams and Margaret Sylow.
There was a tie for the best individual team with congratulations going to Team 17 Carole Walker, Fae Skelton, Ruth Smyrk and Jan Alternator, and Team 22 Joe and Val Sloey, Dawn Dale and Judi Larson. Both teams were also the equal winners of the B Grade Section.
Proceeds of the day which exceeded $1,000 together with a donation from the Hawks Nest Bridge Club, have been donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
All in all it was a most successful and very enjoyable day.
Adrian Ryan, President HNBC
