Bulahdelah holds on to origin shield

15 Jul, 2008 01:18 PM
AFTER a full day of soccer on Sunday, Bulahdelah once again took home the Town of Origin shield.

Tea Gardens Soccer Club hosted the 2008 competition against fierce rivals Bulahdelah.

The junior and senior teams put in their all to make spectators enjoy the excitement of the matches.

Tea Gardens under 10 and under 13 teams dominated their games, with both teams defeating the Bulahdelah teams 4-1.

Tea Gardens players Luke Ireland and Daniel Willamson and Bulahdelah players Josh Dallas and Gabrielle Keaton were awarded with the best and fairest for the games.

That was the end for Tea Gardens luck.

Bulahdelah took possession of the ball in the under 15s game; taking home the win with 13 points to 7.

Best and fairest awards were taken out by Jay Reynolds from Tea Gardens and Jessica Schultz from Bulahdelah.

Tea Gardens Ladies, some who had never played the game before they were called up for their town, took to the field ready to show of the skills they had gained over the past couple of weeks.

They played an admiral game, but despite all their efforts couldn’t keep Bulahdelah away from the goal.

The final score saw a win to Bulahdelah 7-0 with Tea Gardens player Coleen Chapman and Bulahdelah’s Courtney Richards handed the best and fairest awards.

With both towns even in their wins, the men’s game proved to be a real nailbiter for both sides.

With both sides out for the trophy Bulahdelah finally cleaned up, defeating their Tea Gardens opponents 4-2.

Tea Gardens Chris Buckley and Bulahdelah player Brent Smith took out the best and fairest awards for the men’s game. Support from the sidelines were a great boost for players on the day and teams thank coaches, referees and canteen helpers who volunteered their time.

Medals were awarded to all participating players and Carl Baker and Barry White were inducted into the Town of Origin hall of fame for their dedication to the competition.

Thank you to this year’s major sponsor Pelican Pest Control and to all the businesses and people who donated prizes for the fundraising raffles.

LJ Hooker was recognised through out the day for the use of their marquee which shelters Noel and Rob on the barbecue. Both teams are looking forward to next years game, with Tea Gardens looking to bring the trophy back down south.
