LAST weekend the Tea Gardens Men’s Bowling Club fours won the Newcastle District Bowling Association number four grade pennant flag.
The team will now go on to represent the Newcastle Zone in the state finals at Bathurst in August. After taking out their section in the previous week they played Beresfield in their semi final on Saturday and had a comfortable victory.
On Sunday, in very cold and windy conditions, they played the very strong Swansea side.
After getting away to a big lead the boys let Swansea back into the game but showed real fighting spirit to rally towards the end and come home worthy winners.
The team came to victory by nine shots.
The players, Ron James, Adrian Yeo, Geoff Fowler, Jeff Baker, Bob Skewes, Gary Melrose, Barry Drayton, Jim Morrison, Tom Parkinson, Bob Foster, John Younghusband and Denis Ashbridge all played strongly and now look forward to a successful trip to Bathurst.
A great big thank you to all of the supporters who cheer louder than their opposition and really lift the players spirits.
Thank you also to Daryl Martin, Peter Rollason and John Parkinson for making themselves available and also to the bus driver Terry Eyles.
Our number six side had a very successful year also, only missing the playoffs by losing their last game.
The sevens continued to improve with every game and next season should see our club really come into force in every great.
We have some very good players coming up and the club continues to attract new players.
I cannot let the season finish without thanking the team managers John Younghusband, Daryl Martin and Noel Jackson for organising everyone.
Also thank you to our lovely ladies who cater for our high teas every Saturday, they make sure nobody goes home hungry.
Don’t forget the pair’s final next Saturday and the first round of the major singles starting on Sunday.
