Gold Silver and Bronze for Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest

Gold Silver and Bronze for Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest

15 Mar, 2006 02:50 PM
CONGRATULATIONS go to Dennis Searle and Alan "Laurie" Little for their great results in the 2006 NSW Surf Life Saving Masters State Championships held at Cronulla last Thursday.

Their goal of achieving a State Medal for Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest SLSC was more than realised when they won Gold in the 60 - 64 years Double Ski event, coming across the line first, completely unchallenged by their fellow competitors.

In tricky surf conditions featuring very close finishes, Dennis then won Bronze Medals in both the Single Ski and Board races. Finally, with Laurie doing the swim leg and Dennis 'rescuing' him on a rescue board not quite suited to their combined weight, they persevered to bag Silver in the Board Rescue event.

Although having returned victorious from the State Championships, Dennis and Laurie continue to train for the next challenge - The Australian Championships to be held at the end of the month. Kurrawa Beach on Queensland's Gold Coast is notorious for its washing machine surf and crunching shore break at this time of year, so we wish them the best of luck amongst tough competition.

The Club would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our Nipper contingent at their State Championships, also held at Cronulla in a big surf the previous weekend. Valuable experience was gained by all four competitors in very testing conditions including swarms of bluebottles. In the Under 12 girls, Siobhan Larkin only missed getting into the final of the Surf Swim by one place and was also a semi-finalist in her Board event, while late entry, Alicia Lucas, also had to battle difficult surf in her water events. Brin Anseline-McCaskie made the semi-finals in her U/11 Sprint, Flags and Board races and little Bayley Larkin did well to make the quarterfinals in the Board and Surf Swim. Congratulations girls.
