THE Grange Sailing Club has risen from the swamp weeds to sail again.
Sailing began in earnest on February 7 after a hiatus of several months.
Due to the determination of a sailing club friend and colleague, Ian Wheatley and a few able bodies, the Grange Lake is back to its near pristine best.
To celebrate, club members held a dinner to acknowledge the work of both Ian Wheatley and club stalwart Charles Ellis.
As part of our celebrations a Wee Nip Regatta was held on Saturday February 21 with our good friends from the Bayside Sailing Club at Morisset.
In all, 21 competitors competed for the inaugural Stathclyde Cup, the new symbol of sailing supremacy between the two rival clubs.
The Grange team managed to hold the Cup for the first time, however we enjoyed our own conditions and it might be a different story when The Grange sailors venture onto Bayside’s territory on the open Lake Macquarie, when next we meet.
The future looks bright for the Grange Sailing Club once again. Naturally this optimism is based on the continuation of the Grange Lake being maintained to its current level, free of weed and gunk.
