Karate team to Nationals

22 Aug, 2006 01:52 PM
AFTER hosting the State Championships, eight students from the Bulahdelah Shotakan Karate Club decided to take on the nationals by joining the NSW team.

On the weekend of August 12 and 13, the students travelled to Penrith Sports Stadium in Sydney to compete.

Up against teams from Japan, South Africa, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia, the Bulahdelah representatives did the New South Wales team proud.

Ashley Lamborn, Brianna Pung, Daniel Pung, Chris Bofinger, Leslie Coleman, Karleigh McIntosh and Andrew Evans all competed in the junior competition on the Saturday while Helen Pinkerton and Scott Coleman competed in the senior events on the Sunday.

Bulahdelah Sensei, Allan Connor, said it was a very good tournament with everyone putting in a great effort.

"Overall I was very proud of all the competitors, who all gained a placing in their various events," he said.

A high standard was set throughout both days of competition.

Congratulations to Leslie, Chris, Daniel and Helen who each took home a national title.
