Local martial artists bring home the goods

On Sunday, May 27, three local martial artists competed in the regional Koshiki Titles at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.

Will Blyton, Monique St Pier and Kerri Bunton are members of the mixed martial arts NFDAA and RSL Defence Dojo run by Shihan Al Bendich at Tea Gardens, Nelson Bay and Branxton.

It was the first time competing for Will and Kerri, while Monique made a comeback to competition after a number of years out.

A total of 11 members from the Dojo attended the competition.

Results of Kumite (contact fighting):

Junior: Grace Larkin (3rd) 10-11 years Open

Junior: Monique St Pier (1st) 16-17 years Open

Junior: Dale Bendich (3rd) 10-11 years under brown

Senior: Frank Nash (2nd) over 85kg Open

Senior: John Ryll (1st) 65-75kg under brown

Results of Kata (forms):

Junior: Chloe Bendich (1st) 9-11 years Open

Junior: Monique St Pier (3rd) 15-17 years Open

Junior: Pia Larkin (4th) 15-17 years Open

Senior: Kerri Bunton (2nd) veterans Open

Junior: Will Blyton (5th) 9-11 years under brown

Junior: Caitlin Sturchbury (1st) 12-14 years under brown

Results of demonstration: Chloe and Dale Bendich (4th) Open
