The final of our minor singles between Lorraine Harvey and Loretta Baker was certainly a nail biter as promised.
Lorraine got away to a good start but Loretta wound in the lead to within three shots, a valiant effort of concentration. Lorraine, playing champion bowls got away again to win the match. Congratulations to both girls on a terrific game played with great sportsmanship, or is that sportswoman-ship?
Social bowls. Tuesday October 2
Winners D. Page, M. Smith and E. Barbie. Runner up S. Cheetham, P. Madden and J. Younghusband.
Thursday October 4 we had a very successful and enjoyable Oncology Day, the weather was kind, the lunch delicious, the company fun and the competition fierce and rowdy with extraordinary talk of flagpoles and garments.
Although our number of players was down on last year by around 20, we raised in excess of $2,000 owing to the generosity of many in our community. We appreciate the support of local businesses, our clubs and members. Thank you all very much.
Winners P. Janes, K. McKeown, L. Green and F. Giggins. Runner up C. Atkins, G. Pezet, J. Adams and M. Roberts.
Whilst we were busy raising funds our own Helen Doorey and Maynie Roberts were contesting the district level of the Annis Young Consistency Championship.
Maynie was defeated in her quarter final but Helen went on, won her semi final and contested the final.
This is a first for our club, Helen was runner up to Stockton.
A truly great effort, congratulations girls and well done Helen.
