National title for Lewis Dorney

30 Jan, 2008 09:14 AM
Lewis Dorney has put Bulahdelah on the map once more with his efforts in the 2006 and 2007 camp draft season.

Lewis has come away with a bag full of trophies and awards including winning the under 13s National Australian Camp Draft Tittle in 2007.

He travelled from Grafton to Camden and west to Barraba.

On December 15 Lewis and his family travelled to Tamworth where he was presented with a buckle and coat for his efforts in 2007, beating his previous year’s efforts of runner up and all after only three years of camp drafting.

In June and July he competed in and won the Glowalman Championship Junior Rodeo and Camp Draft held over three days in Wingham, Nabiac and Gloucester.

He won the Glowalman’s shield from a field of 1200 entrants in addition to the champion camp draft rider section.

Lewis was runner up in the Hunter zone and equal first in the Eastern zone.

In the year of competing in 30 drafts Lewis has received a place in 18 of these events, he has won nine times, came second five times and third four times.

Lewis would like to thank his grandfather Royce for buying his little black mare, Acres of Lace and the expert training she had from Jason Leich that made them the team they are today.

Lewis also competes on another older experienced horse Bacardi which helped Lewis learn the skills of drafting.
