For some people the Olympics is a major sporting event carried out every four years, for 10-year-old Carl Williams it is more than just a sporting event, it is a dream and one he hopes to achieve.
Carl Williams is a member of the Tea Gardens Runners and Medowie Little Athletics clubs and has won a place at the state championships in Homebush.
Carl recently participated in Coffs Harbour at the regional championships in the 400, 800 and 1500m events.
His third place medal in the 1500m event is what won him the place at the state championships.
Carl started with the Medowie Little Athletics in October last year and has since improved greatly with his running.
He is currently training three times a week through the Tea Gardens Runners.
He was running with the club before he took up little athletics and said he started running because he was “good at it and could go places.”
Carl prefers long distance running and said 5.2km is the longest he had run.
The third place medal was the first that Carl had won outside school where he won a medal for his cross country running.
However in a couple of years the medal is sure to have many others hanging beside it.
The State Championships will be held at Homebush in Sydney during April.
