TEA Gardens family, the Tennysons, have the need for speed.
Racing their go-karts in the Prokart Australia competition the local competitors have proved they are the fastest.
Fourteen-year-old Dylan and 12-year-old Kaylah followed their father into the racing circuit.
“Dad started it and I always liked it; it’s the adrenalin rush,” Dylan said.
With her feet just reaching the pedals eight-year-old Sally is starting to make her way to the next level, currently working her way to racing speeds.
“We put (the kids) into the karts and they felt the need for speed,” mother and support team Narelle Tennyson said.
Racing earlier this month at Taree in the super sprint 4s and the endurance race, Dylan and Kaylah both brought home more trophies.
Dylan gained a first in the senior sportsman while Kaylah took out second in the junior sportsman.
Newcomers to the sport, James and Graham Reddon, also brought home a first in the junior and third in the senior sportsman events respectively.
Eleven-year-old James has only done three races since he started the sport in April but has gone from strength to strength.
“He is well on his way to the top point score; he is leading the championships at the moment and improving each time he gets out (on the track),” Narelle said.
Racing for Team OFIK Dylan competed as one of the six drivers in a 24 endurance race during June.
The team finished third outright.
With a lot of travelling to events across the state, Narelle believes the family connection is one great thing.
“The whole prokart team is like an extended family. If you are having trouble another team will help you get back on the course,” Narelle said.
With very few weekends at home the Tennyson’s are looking for sponsorship from local businesses to help with the finance.
Mobile Service Station at Karuah currently sponsors Kaylah in her sprint races, but the family don’t have a sponsor for the endurance races.
If you are interested in sponsoring the team phone the Tennyson’s on 4997 1123.
Up next is an August trip to Picton for the Super Sprint 4s competition and later in the year the family will travel to the Gold Coast for an endurance race.
With the top of the TV cabinet cluttering with trophies they will soon have to look for a new cabinet.
