The wows and woes of surf life saving

18 Apr, 2006 10:18 AM
MIXED results for Dennis Searle and Laurie Little at the 2006 Australian Masters Surf Life Saving Titles at Kurrawa, as Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest SLSC's only two competitors came home both pleased and frustrated with their results.

A Silver Medal for Dennis in the Single Ski and a finalist placing for Laurie in his first attempt in the same event were the highlights of their competition.

Organisers tried to start the Masters competition in tremendous seas on the first day, but finally had to transfer everything to North Kirra where only a few events were contested - the rest being postponed until the next day.

Frustrating fourths then faced Dennis and Laurie when, although on the same winning wave as their rivals in the final of the Board Rescue, they had a longer run up the beach to the finishing line.

Then, after leading the pack for most of the way in their pet event, the Double Ski, they were hit by a pair who cut the last buoy, and although disqualified at that point, left Dennis and Laurie to again come across the line in fourth position.

That's surf life saving for you!

Next year the Titles finally move away from Queensland and the fellas are already planning the long haul to Perth and another attempt at that elusive gold.
