Summer Competition 2009/1010

THE heavens opened up as the summer competition kicked off. Thursday November 5 marked the kick off of the 2009/2010 twilight 6 aside summer competition. Not deterred by the weather, team captains gathered early for a quick photo opportunity with the prized Bulahdelah bowling Club Shield before the brollies were put aside and the boots pulled on as each team began their campaign of being crowned champions. This year’s comp will see a record 14 teams take to the field including defending champs d’ilusioned FC (now Busted Barcas FC), last year’s runner up Red Rockets FC, former winners Mayers Flat marauders (now Plough Inn Marauders), Dad’s Army, Tea Gardens Hotel, Down to Eart Paving Pythongs, Saligna, Myall River Bullrouts, Thrifty Link Titans plus a host of newcomers in Country Energy, The Boys, Sexual Chocolate, Barry Bros, Meatheads and the Bowling Club Misfits.

The first round of matches got under way at 5.30pm on field one with newcomers Sexual Chocolate tackling Saligna in a fairly open game with Sexual Chocolate striking the first goal of the match but Saligna won eventually 2-1.

Field two saw one of the favourites for this year’s comp, the Pythons face off against an enthusiastic Titans with the Pythons sending a strong warning to the rest of the comp by winning 9-1.

The second round of the matches got underway at 6.30pm with two of the heavy weights clashing in a grand final reply between Rockets FC and Busted Barcas. In a fast free flowing match it would be Busted Barcas who proved to be the more clinical of the two sides with Busted Barcas 7 defeating Red Rockets 1.

Field two saw two teams with more experience amongst them than the rest of the teams combined with Dad’s Army fronting Tea Gardens. It was one of the closest results of the night with Teagardens winning 1-0.

Round three got underway at 7.30pm on field one with the newest addition to the comp The Barry Bros Meatheads ready to take the cleavers to the dark horses of the comp, the Boys. The Boys from Hawks Nest dug deep to snatch three quick goals in the dying moments of the match, winning 7-4.

Field two would see a new look Marauders side tackle the Myall River Bullrouts. Another powerhouse of the comp, the Marauders came up against a young and enthusiastic Bullrouts but the Marauders experience came through with a 4-1 win.
